The connection of the Grimsby Raynham families to the Raynham Tree provided an opportunity for William Raynham’s Great grandsons David and Derek Raynham to visit their ancestral roots in Suffolk. Over the 17th & 18th September 2007 they visited Lindsey, where William was baptised in 1842, Chelsworth where Robert James, William’s father was baptised and onto the parish churches of Lavenham, Thorpe Morieux, Hitcham and Bildeston. All these churches were witness to the many baptisms, marriages and burials of their ancestors. Derek who comes from Surrey and David from Devon were able to visit Brettenham the earliest known parish where the Raynhams have been noted, they were able to see early Raynham gravestones at Brettenham churchyard and at Chelsworth they noted the double headstone of their 3 x Great grandparents William and Mary Eleanor who died in 1873 and 1864 respectively. |
